About us
Daniels was founded in 1986 by innovator and entrepreneur Dan Daniels, and was one of the first companies in the world to provide reusable sharps containers to healthcare facilities.
Also in 1996, Daniels' team of engineers and scientists began a Research & Development project to address the growing need for a safer system for disposing of sharps in healthcare facilities. That project resulted in the Sharpsmart system that is now known and trusted throughout New Zealand and throughout the world.
Nationwide service
In 1998 Daniels entered into an agreement with Medismart Ltd, New Zealand's most trusted medical waste treatment provider, and this relationship has grown and developed into a Joint Venture company that provides the Daniels Sharpsmart system throughout New Zealand and utilising Medismart's access to treatment plants in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.
New Zealand leads the way
In 1999 Middlemore Hospital in Auckland became the first major hospital in the world to implement Daniels' new Sharpsmart system and to benefit from the safety features of the system.Nationwide success
The Daniels Sharpsmart system has now become the most widely-used reusable sharps management system in New Zealand. Over 1,250 healthcare facilities now use the system from Kaitaia to Invercargill, ranging in size from GP and dentist practices through to the largest private hospitals and District Health Boards.
